Jonathan's Impeachment: 63 Senators Are in Support

goodluck-jonathan

Yesterday, November 27, 63 senators have expressed support to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan.
Punch learnt from its source In Abuja that out of 109 members in the Senate, 63 signed up the plan, with 8 members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) among them.

A senator acting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized Jonathan’s performance saying they were prepared for the difficulties associated with the potential impeachment.
“We know and we are prepared to show the President that we have responsibility to the people and the nation in general. We are prepared to lay the impeachment notice anytime from next week. Meetings are already being held.”
APC Senator Ibrahim Musa representing Niger North confirmed the development with the intention by some Senate members to initiate impeachment but said he was not aware of the details.

“I think there is something like that but I don’t have the details, it is still coming as a rumour.”
However according to the anonymous senator, the impeachment letter has not been introduced yet because some signees, the PDP members, asked for the action delay.
“The truth of the matter is that the impeachment notice would have been laid if not for our colleagues in the PDP who pleaded with us to delay the process pending when the senate leadership would come up with the result of its efforts at securing automatic tickets for them.
“In any case the process had started but if we submit the letter now, the signatures of the PDP senators will be there and the party might want to use that as an excuse to deny them their automatic tickets.”
It would be recalled that talks about Jonathan’s impeachment have been actively circulating in the media this week, which comes just two months ahead of the presidential elections.

Some Senate members were said to be compiling the list of offences by the country leader.

At the same time some House of Reps members disclosed that they worked in cooperation with the upper chamber to initiate the motion.

However the official documents and announcements are yet to be provided on the issue.
