The residents of Gubio town, Borno State, were thrown into panic as they received threatening letters from suspected Boko Haram members.According to Leadership, thousands of locals run away to the state capital Maiduguri after the incident.
The residents, who arrived in Maiduguri in various vehicles were seen moving towards the direction of the Shehu of Borno’s palace and the city centre.
One of them named Fannami Abuwar narrated:
“We have been threatened with letter by the Boko Haram insurgents, saying that they would attack us soon and we all have to flee for our lives having heard of what happened to communities like Damasak and Malumfatori where similar threat were made and carried out.”
A spokesman for the Vigilante Group in Borno State, Muhammed Gava, confirmed the incident which resulted in mass flee.
“We were all disturbed by the development because Gubio [96 kilometres away from Maiduguri], though not too far away from Maiduguri, has been very peaceful and calm all this while.”
It would be recalled that on Tuesday Borno capital was hit by twin explosion, which was carried out by female suicide bombers at the popular local market.
The health care officials said that 24 people died on the spot and 54 victims were admitted to the hospitals following the attack. Various source provided however that from 30 to 60 people lost their lives on the fateful day.
