Cristiano Ronaldo Gets Straight Red Card For Kicking And Slapping Two Players

Referee Alejandro Jose Hernandez Hernandez had little choice but to show Ronaldo a straight red card following the incidents

Portugal striker, Cristiano Ronaldo was shown a straight red card for launching an assault on Edimar Fraga and Jose Angel Crespo during the La Liga game between Cordoba and Real Madrid today.

The current World Player of the Year, who was obviously frustrated in the match, received the red card in the 82nd minute of the game after kicking and slapping two Cordoba players, Fraga and Crespo who tried to calm his nerves.
Despite the ugly scenario and sending off of their talisman, Real Madrid managed to end the match with a 2 – 1 victory.

THEO WALCOTT: Alexis Sanchez Is So Good He Makes Me Want To Be Better

The Gunners ace has made a flying start to his Arsenal career, scoring 12 Premier League goals and creating another seven.

And Walcott, who's returned to the team recently after injury, admits watching him play makes him want to work harder.

Walcott also admitted he, and the rest of the team, harbour fears he may run himself into the ground eventually if he doesn't look after himself.

“You see somebody working so hard and it makes you want to try to back him up,” Walcott told Arsenal Player.

“When you see what he does off the pitch, behind the scenes at the training ground, and how much work he puts in, all the players just stand up and think ‘Yeah, I need to a bit more as well then’.
“It’s about getting that balance right. We told him during the Christmas period to relax a little bit, but he still cracked on with his gym work! He’s that sort of person - nothing will make him tired. It’s healthy to see, because the Premier League is very fast, but he’s coped with it fine.

“He is amazing because he spots things that a lot of players won’t. I tend to make my runs off the ball and he is always looking for that. He drags more players on to him, which creates more space for other people and I do the same thing.

“It is a great balance and once I am fully fit, I think it is going to be some force for the Premier League to handle.”

FOOTBALL TRANSFER: Arsenal Eye Move For €50m-Rated Argentinean International

According to reports today, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for Valencia centre-back Nicolas Otamendi.
Arsene is almost certain to bring in another central defender this month after admitting we lack depth at the back and a number of names have been linked.

READ ALSO: Couple Alert? See How Flavour And Chidinma Got Cozy In These New Pics

Just hours after Villarreal’s Gabriel Paulista claimed that we’ve contacted his agent about a potential move, the Mirror are now reporting that we’ve added Otamendi to our list of targets.
The Argentinean international only joined Valencia last winter and spent the second half of last season back on loan at Atletico Mineiro, but he’s been a rock at the back for the Spaniard’s this season and I think he’d be a great addition – particularly as he can also play at right-back.

However, his purchase isn’t going to be easy as Manchester United are also reportedly on the case and Villarreal have confirmed today that they’ve knocked back a bid of €35m (£27m) from an unnamed club.

READ ALSO: Ice Prince Has A New Lover - Guess Who!!!

It’s thought that club is probably United, but Valencia have made it clear they won’t sell for a penny less than the 26-year-old’s €50m buy-out clause.

I highly doubt that Arsene would pay that kind money for a defender, so unfortunately it appears we’ll have to continue our search for a centre-back.

World Best Footballer - Cristiano Ronaldo Scores Twice As Real Madrid Beat Getafe 3-0

Cristiano Ronaldo was at the double as Real Madrid swept aside their Copa del Rey elimination at city rivals Atletico's hands with a 3-0 win at Getafe in La Liga.
A 2-2 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu only resulted in a 4-2 aggregate defeat as Real's Copa defence was ended at the quarter-final stage, with further frustrations creeping through in a goalless first half at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday.

READ ALSO: FOOTBALL TRANSFERS: Paul Pogba Could Be On His Way To Madrid
Getafe belied form which saw them enter the game without a win in eight league games, although Toni Kroos' half-volley rattled the crossbar just before the break to signal Real's intent.

Needing a win to guarantee top spot with Barcelona playing later in the day, Real eventually found their feet in the second half, with Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo tapping home after good work from James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema.

The Colombian also set-up the second, nodded home by Gareth Bale, before Ronaldo benefitted from another Rodriguez assist, taking his season tally to 36 and ending a difficult week on a high after reports of a breakdown in his relationship with supermodel Irina Shayk.

Looking to put their Copa exit behind them, Real were quick out the blocks with Benzema and Marcelo going close in the opening stages.

Getafe gave them few troubles, but Real also struggled to find a breakthrough, despite their dominance of possession.

Benzema got behind the defence to square for Marcelo from the byline, but the Brazilian's effort was well blocked by Emiliano Velazquez.

The lively French striker saw an angled shot denied by the legs of goalkeeper Jordi Codina, who also had to be alert to tip Isco's speculative 30-yard strike over the bar nine minutes before the break.

Jorge Sammir fired high and wide for the hosts following a sweeping breakaway, but Real continued to dominate, with Kroos rattling the bar on the stroke of half-time.

Benzema and Rodriguez tested Codina shortly after the break as Getafe's defence gradually began to tire and a breakthrough seemed inevitable.

It eventually came in the 63rd minute as Rodriguez and Benzema again combined on the left, allowing the Frenchman to hit the byline before pulling back to Ronaldo, who was left with a simple finish from eight yards.

It was no less than the visitors deserved and the lead was doubled three minutes later, when a superb teasing cross from Rodriguez on the left was met by an onrushing Bale, who calmly headed home at the far post.

Ronaldo sent a fizzing free-kick just wide of Codina's right-hand post, but did not have to wait long to double his tally, getting on the end of another brilliant Rodriguez cross the head home and seal a comfortable win for Carlo Ancelotti's men.

FOOTBALL TRANSFERS: Paul Pogba Could Be On His Way To Madrid

According to the Daily Star, Real Madrid are looking to beat off competition from Chelsea and Manchester City by plotting a whopping £78 million deal for former Manchester United ace Paul Pogba.
The French international currently plies his trade at Juventus, joining the Turn-based outfit in 2012 after deciding to leave the Red Devils – a decision which infuriated then-boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Pogba has gone on to become one of Europe’s leading midfielders over the past two years, helping Juve to successive Serie A titles and leading France to the World Cup quarter-finals in Brazil.
Despite being just 21 years of age, the former United youngster has become an ever present presence for the Bianconeri, starting 14 Serie A matches this season and netting four goals.

The Daily Star report Chelsea and Manchester City’s interest in signing the defensive midfielder, though the Premier League duo could be pipped to his signature by La Liga giants Real Madrid.

“Real Madrid are set to blow Chelsea and Manchester City out of the water with a £78million bid for former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. Reports in Italy suggest the Frenchman's time with Juventus is almost up - and that Madrid will be his next stop,” the report claims.

READ ALSO: FOOTBALL TRANSFERS: Not signing a defender is 'risky' - Wenger Admits

Despite the reports, Pogba has only recently signed a new contract at Juve, tying him to the club until the summer of 2019.

However, his agent Mino Raiola has opened the door for a potential move, quoted by the Daily Star: "He cannot stay for very much longer in Italy. It will depend on the Bianconeri (Juventus).”

Real Madrid certainly aren’t unfamiliar with shelling out big sums for the best players in the world, and if anybody is to bid reported £78 million you certainly wouldn’t rule the Madrid outfit out.

FOOTBALL TRANSFERS: Not signing a defender is 'risky' - Wenger Admits

With Arsenal's defensive stocks being tested, Arsene Wenger has hinted at signing cover in January.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger conceded not reinforcing his depleted defence before the close of the January transfer window would be too "risky".
French full-back Mathieu Debuchy added to Wenger's defensive woes during the week, ruled out for three months due to a dislocated shoulder.

READ ALSO: EPL: Chelsea Routs Swansea As Man U Struggled TO Beat QPR
Arsenal's defensive stocks have been tested throughout the 2014-15 Premier League season, with Laurent Koscielny, Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal all spending time on the sidelines.

West Ham defender Winston Reid and Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels have been touted as potential signings in January.

And Wenger is aware failure to add defensive cover would be a gamble with Arsenal desperate to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League.

"It's risky. It's too risky," said Wenger. "If we have another injury or two we will struggle.

"We can, because we have [Calum] Chambers, [Per] Mertesacker, Koscielny. But we have now lost Debuchy, who could play centre-back, Monreal, who can play centre-back, Gibbs as well has been out.

"Of course we have made enquiries and then you have a second handicap of who wants to sell their best players, especially a central defender, in the middle of the season.

"They say: 'OK, come back in June or July and maybe yes.'"

Wenger added: "I am not the only one working on the case."

"It's not a supermarket where you go in and buy a defender, it's a market that is very restricted, that players who can strengthen the best 10 teams in Europe, you don't find many and it's the same for everybody.

"We are a big attraction, of course we are, but if it was easy we would do it."

EPL: Chelsea Routs Swansea As Man U Struggled TO Beat QPR

Chelsea routed Swansea 5-0 for the leader’s biggest win of the English Premier League season on Saturday, while Manchester United produced only its third away success of the campaign at Queens Park Rangers.
Diego Costa and Oscar both scored twice before Andre Schuerrle completed Swansea’s home humiliation, to go provisionally five points ahead of Manchester City, which hosts Arsenal on Sunday.

“The team is playing with high quality and has a clear identity of playing,” Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho said. “Sometimes teams are good and play well without the clear identity, but all this season we are going in a certain direction.”

United labored through the first half at QPR before a second-half turnaround saw substitutes Marouane Fellaini and James Wilson clinch a 2-0 victory. QPR remains in the relegation zone after a fifth straight winless league match, while United remains fourth, two points behind Southampton.

The south-coast team won 2-1 at Newcastle after the first goals from Eljero Elia since joining on loan from Werder Bremen this month.

Tottenham moved up to fifth with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland, Liverpool won 2-0 at Aston Villa, bottom-place Leicester lost 1-0 to Stoke, and Crystal Palace came from two goals down to beat Burnley 3-2, making it two wins out of two under Alan Pardew.

There were also five goals in south Wales but they were all scored by Chelsea – four in the opening 36 minutes. And the first came 49 seconds into the match from Oscar’s 20-yard (meter) shot.

Cesc Fabregas’ 15th assist of the league season set up Diego Costa’s first, and the striker then seized on poor defending to score his 17th goal of the campaign.

Costa’s cut-back allowed Oscar to net Chelsea’s fourth with ease. The only surprise was it took Chelsea until the 79th to net again, with Schuerrle tapping Branislav Ivanovic’s cross into an empty net.

By contrast, United has been struggling to score. Fellaini’s opener at QPR – from Antonio Valencia’s pass – was only the team’s second goal in six hours of league action.

The second at Loftus Road came in stoppage time on the counterattack, when QPR was pushing for an equalizer, with Wilson netting from the rebound after first being denied by goalkeeper Robert Green.

At White Hart Lane, there was no debut goal from Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe against his former club.

Jan Vertonghen’s second-minute opener for Tottenham was canceled out by Sebastian Larsson’s curled free kick, but Christian Eriksen struck the hosts’ winner in the 88th.

There was a fourth win in five games for seventh-place Liverpool. Fabio Borini volleyed in his first goal of the season before Rickie Lambert’s low strike at Villa, which has gone nearly nine hours without scoring.

QPR Vs MAN U: Super-Sub Goal From Marouane Fellaini

In arguably the pick of this afternoon’s 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League, Queens Park Rangers play host to 13-time PL winners Manchester United at Loftus Road.
The game endured a rather subdued start – indeed, both sides seemed void of all creativity going forward as they went in at half-time without scoring. The Old Trafford outfit appeared to be struggling with their 3-5-2 formation, once again, whilst the West Londoners were trapped in an endless cycle of pumping the ball forward to Bobby Zamora.

But finally, the deadlock was been broken by a relatively unlikely source. Marouane Fellaini started the match on the bench but came on at half-time for a lackluster Juan Mata and had a huge impact, netting United’s first of the afternoon.

The Belgium international’s Red Devils career has often been shrouded in controversy, but if the score remains the same for the next half hour, he’ll be United’s hero of the afternoon.

Sanchez Is Setting The Pace At Arsenal - Chamberlain Admits

Alexis Sanchez celebrates after scoring his second goal in Arsenal's 3-0 defeat of Stoke

Alexis Sanchez's dynamic performances are inspiring the other Arsenal players to raise their own game, according to midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Chile forward Sanchez was again the Gunners' talisman against Stoke on Sunday, scoring twice and setting up the opener in the 3-0 victory which moved Arsene Wenger's side to within a point of fourth-placed Manchester United.

The work-rate of the South American has been impressive since completing a £32million summer move from Barcelona, and England international Oxlade-Chamberlain revealed the rest of the squad are determined not to let their own high standards slip.

'When you see someone working hard from the front and maybe if they close three players down and don't win the ball back, then you are not there to back him up, you do have to look at yourself and think 'why was I not there to help my team-mate out?' It does set the tone for the rest of the team,' said Oxlade-Chamberlain.

'If the boys up front react quickly when we lose the ball, it brings the midfield with them, full-backs and the defenders to switch from attack to defence. It is something that we work hard on.

'Alexis does it better than anyone I have seen. He has come from Barcelona, and it is a strong philosophy that they play by, so maybe he has picked that up there and brought that to us in every game he has played.

'There are definitely a lot of boys learning from him.'

The Chilean has been in sensational form since arriving from Barcelona - scoring 12 goals in 19 league games

As well as producing a devastating offensive display, which saw goalkeeper Asmir Begovic make a number of top-class saves, the Gunners also retained a solid formation, something which had been distinctly lacking when they went down 3-2 away at Stoke in early December.

Oxlade-Chamberlain said: 'That is a quality which every side that finishes up the table needs to have, because you can't always play the way you want to play, sometimes you have to roll your sleeves up, be physical and win the duels. On Sunday, we did that.

READ ALSO: NEXT LEVEL: Abuja Runs Babes Forms Association [MUST READ]
'I definitely think in the game away at Stoke we lacked that and that is why we came out with a loss.

'That is always at the back of your mind, so we need to take that approach every game because once we match teams physically and defending-wise, it gives us a good chance.

'We know in our team we have got the quality going forward to cause teams damage, so it is always important to make sure we match teams physically and do the dirty stuff as well.'

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has accepted being dropped with 'great professionalism'

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was left on the bench against Stoke, with Colombia international David Ospina given a Premier League debut.

It remains to be seen whether manager Wenger will recall Szczesny for the trip to Manchester City next week, although it was maintained Sunday's decision was not based on any disciplinary action in the wake of negative headlines over the Poland international smoking in the showers following the defeat at Southampton.

READ ALSO: 9 Things You Didn't Know About Sperm [MUST READ]

Oxlade-Chamberlain felt the 24-year-old had handled the situation with great professionalism.

He said: 'I haven't seen any difference in Wojciech. He is always a big part of our squad. He is always a character around the dressing room and he has been no different this week.'

MOURINHO: Eden Harzard Has No Intentions To Leave Chelsea

Eden Hazard, has perhaps cooled down all transfer speculation linking him with a move away from Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge, that is according to Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. Mourinho, has been developed a keen liking towards the robust Belgian midfielder and defended him against Tottenham Hotspur, claiming that the referees and players were too harsh on Hazard.

Although, Hazard has played coy with his contract situation at Chelsea, Mourinho believes that the Belgian’s future lies at Stamford Bridge.

“I think he loves it here. I think so,” Mourinho said. “I think, I hope (he will stay).”

Mourinho, bemoaned fouls committed on his sprightly midfielder and said that the league will not witness classic Hazard, if referees do not protect him.

READ ALSO: You Need To Watch Google’s Jaw-Dropping Year In Review Video [MUST WATCH]

“The first free-kick of every game is somebody kicking him,” Mourinho said. “He has fouls and fouls and fouls. I don’t see many yellow cards.

“Sometimes a yellow card is a consequence of violent conduct, but I also think that accumulation of small fouls is also violent conduct.

“The kid is suffering the consequences of that, but playing amazingly well.

Against Tottenham, Hazard was Mourinho’s fulcrum in attack and was perhaps the best Chelsea player out there. Hazard, was also in the thick of controversy as he was hauled by last man Fazio, only for the referee to wave play on.

“(Against Tottenham) he was amazing. Even in the second half, with a difficult result to face, and to have the determination to keep believing till the end. He was fantastic.”

Although Mourinho’s starting eleven against Watford, might not feature the prolific talent, he could very well come on as a substitute and change the course of the game, if Chelsea are lagging behind. However, Mourinho will try to rally his troops and dish out a Watford hammering.

“Every game and every competition, we try. So the next game is FA Cup, let’s respect the competition, which is a beautiful one, and try to go all the way.”

“The Championship clubs will be in a better condition than the Premier League clubs,”Mourinho said.

“At the same time, normally the Premier League clubs have more potential, more quality. Maybe it’s a way to make things level.

“One team has more quality but another team is fresh and ready for the game. So maybe matches between Premier League teams and Championship teams, this is a good way to level things.”

Chelsea take on Watford in the FA Cup and will hope that to get back to winning ways.

Wenger - Southampton Defeat Just A Hiccup

Arsene Wenger bemoaned Arsenal's defensive frailties as they gifted Southampton a 2-0 victory at St Mary's Stadium, but said the defeat was just a "hiccup".

"I am disappointed because it was a self-inflicted defeat. We made the mistakes at the back and we were punished.

"Sometimes we look like we can go on a run and then we have a hiccup. We have to learn from that very quickly."

"Today was a game that was winnable and we lost," added Wenger. "That's my main concern, the lack of defensive consistency."

Truly Arsenal could have won or drawn the match if not for the good will and new year gift Arsenal's number one gave the saints.

Szczesny Gifts Southampton 2 Goals To Celebrate The New Year

Two steps forward, one step back has become the norm at Arsenal these days and Wojciech Szczesny ensured it would be business as usual for Arsene Wenger in the new year.

The Arsenal keeper contributed two calamitous mistakes that gifted Southampton the chance to establish a two-goal lead and claim a victory that ultimately was alarmingly comfortable from Wenger’s point of view.

The outcome was that Southampton struck a blow in the increasingly crowded battle for a top four place, moving three points clear of an Arsenal side who dropped to sixth after Tottenham’s stunning 5-3 win over Chelsea in the late kick-off.

READ ALSO: Tottenham vs. Chelsea: Referee Phil Dowd Was Too Slow - Mourinho Gives Excuses

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman is convinced his side have the capacity to sustain their challenge for a top four finish and if future opponents are half as generous as Arsenal, they will achieve their aim with plenty of room to spare.

Szczesny’s first error was to race off his line and fail to win the ball on the left hand edge of his penalty area. Stranded in no man’s land, the keeper was unable to prevent Sadio Mane’s admittedly excellent finish from the tightest of angles from giving the home side a 34th minute lead.

Then, with Arsenal looking for a way back into the game in early stages of the second half, the keeper got in a terrible mix-up with right-back Mathieu Debuchy and ended up hacking the ball tamely to Dusan Tadic who gratefully accepted the opportunity to add a 56th minute second.

Koeman summed things up accurately enough.
“I don’t like to talk about the mistakes of the opponent, because that can be disrespectful,” said the manager. “But the second was maybe a new year present.”
It’s probably a good job Wenger didn’t hear the remark.

The Arsenal manager was visibly fuming at Szczesny’s first error, by the time of the second, disbelief had turned into resignation.

Having come into the game as the only one of the top six to have won their opening two holiday games, this was a chance for Arsenal’s season to gather momentum.

Instead, the afternoon ended with another inquest and what appeared to be latest example of supporter dissent when a fan was arrested after leaping from the crowd and remonstrating in front of the dugouts.
“Every time we look like we can get on a run, we have a hiccup,” said Wenger. “We have to learn from that very quickly because we will need that.
“Today more than the position in the league, my main concern is that it was a game that was winnable that we lost, more than fourth place. Because we need to be consistent defensively from the start.”
Wenger resisted any urge to single Szczesny out for criticism but his insistence that “I don’t want to talk about him” spoke volumes.

David Ospina will start Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Hull City and can prepare himself for an extended run in the side if he impresses.

For Arsenal, their FA Cup defence has assumed even greater significance with the competition once again offering their best chance of success this season.

Prior to Mane’s opening goal, Arsenal appeared to have settled into the game but from the moment Mane out-paced Laurent Koscielny and panicked Szczesny, a home win always appeared likely.

Southampton keeper Fraser Forster twice saved well from Alexis Sanchez but Arsenal were vulnerable to Southampton’s attacking threat and were undone for a second time after Steve Davis latched onto Victor Wanyama’s long ball and drilled in the cross that prompted a second mix up.
“This result show we can beat a big team,” said Koeman. “The draw against Chelsea was important, after that the players had the belief to win something.
“I don’t say now after this we have more possibilities to stay high but I believe and the belief was there before. We had a fantastic run, we didn’t make parties, we didn’t make troubles after five defeats. You need the confidence to play good football. Every game you have to be prepared because every game is difficult.”

Steven Gerrard To Quit Liverpool This Summer

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is set to announce he is to leave his boyhood club at the end of the season.

The midfielder, who will turn 35 in May, is out of contract in the summer, but, despite being offered a new deal, he appears to have decided the time is right to leave and pursue a fresh challenge.

Gerrard, who scored two penalties in Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Leicester, has been free to talk to foreign clubs from 1 January.

He has not yet decided on a future destination, but a move to Major League Soccer has long been rumoured and Los Angeles Galaxy are said to be interested, as are clubs in the Middle East.

If he were to announce his decision to leave in the next 24 hours, it would be a move which mirrored that of close friend Jamie Carragher, who decided to reveal he was retiring in February 2013 to avoid his on-going contract situation becoming a distraction for manager Brendan Rodgers.

Carragher posted on Twitter on Thursday night: "Sad day for LFC & English football with the Gerrard news, I think it's the right decision all things considered."

Former Reds midfielder Terry McDermott added: "Mark my words Gerrard is the greatest player to have played for #lfc sad sad day for everyone connected with the club.

"Kenny (Dalglish) and Souey (Graeme Souness) shone in great great LFC teams...Gerrard has played in LFC teams that were at best mediocre and he carried them to trophies".

Gerrard joined Liverpool as an eight-year-old and has made 695 appearances and scored 180 goals, winning 11 trophies with pinnacle being lifting the Champions League in 2005.

He made his first team debut in 1998 and was made captain in 2003.

Liverpool have not commented on speculation about Gerrard's future, but it has been suggested the player himself will confirm the news on Friday.

RONALDO: See How The Madrid Star Refused To Shake Hands With UEFA President At The FIFA Club World Cup [VIDEO]

Cristiano Ronaldo avoids shaking hands with Michel Platini Picture YouTube

It seems Portugal and Real Madrid striker, Cristiano Ronaldo is till unhappy with UEFA president, Michel Platini over the latter’s comments that a German player should win the 2014 edition of the biggest individual accolade in the game, Ballon d’Or. The UEFA president, who had earlier stated the accolade should be reserved for one of Germany’s World Cup winning squad, which the 2013 winner, set him against Ronaldo.
During the presentation of the Club World Cup title to Real Madrid last Saturday, December 20, 2014, the former Manchester United star footballer walked past the president after his coach, Carlo Ancelotti and others were seen exchanging pleasantries with Mancini and other football dignitaries.

Although Germany’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper, Manuer Neur is among the final three nominees for the award, Ronaldo is widely believed to be the front runner on account of his heroics for his club last season as well as almost single handedly qualifying Portugal for the World Cup.

ARSENE WENGER: Alexis Sanchez Is Our Suarez

Arsene Wenger has Likened his South American superstar Alexis Sanchez to former Liverpool hot-shot Luis Suarez.

Ahead of the weekend clash against the Reds, Brendan Rodgers confirmed the Anfield club attempted to sign the Chilean playmaker with the funds available from the Suarez deal.

But now the Frenchman has rubbed salt into the wounds by comparing his star forward to the departed  Uruguayan.

"Sanchez, he looks like he is made for the English game," said Wenger, who attempted to sign Suarez from Liverpool in 2013.

"Sanchez has settled very quickly. But he has a kind of game that is instinctive and tough.

"They [Sanchez and Suarez] have similarities. They are South Americans, they are provoking players, and they go with the ball.

"They are very determined as well, both of them. They have plenty of similar attitudes."

THIERRY HENRY: Arsenal Legend Hangs Boots

Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry has announced his retirement from football after a trophy-laden 20-year career.

Arsenal’s all time leading goalscorer ended his career at MLS club, New York Red Bulls at the age of 37-years-old. Henry’s glistening career maybe over, but he has left some wonderful memories for us all.

After trying his hand at punditry with BBC Sport over the World Cup, Henry is now set for a new venture as he works alongside Sky Sports as a pundit for the channel. Speaking to BBC Sport, Henry said, “It has been an incredible journey.”

The Frenchman, who also played for Monaco, Juventus, and Barcelona, scored 175 Premier League goals and is fourth on the list of all-time scorers.

Henry won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners, where he played between 1999 and 2007.

He added the Champions League trophy with Barcelona in 2009 and returned to Arsenal for four matches on loan from the Red Bulls in 2012, coming on as a substitute to score the winner against Leeds in the third round of the FA Cup.

When asked if he had considered another stint at the Emirates, he told Sky Sports: "You kind of never leave Arsenal."

But he added that another comeback might prove costly, referencing the 'Rocky' films starring Sylvester Stallone.

"At one point, it will turn out to be a bad move," he said. "We all love the first Rocky, but I'm not too sure about the last one."

Henry, France's record goalscorer, made his Monaco debut in 1994 and helped the club to the French Ligue 1 title in 1997.

In 1998, he was an unused substitute in the World Cup final victory over Brazil, though he went on to score three goals as France won Euro 2000.

"I would like to thank all the fans, team-mates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and, of course, the French national team that have made my time in the game so special," said Henry in a statement.

"I have had some amazing memories (mostly good!) and a wonderful experience. I hope you have enjoyed watching as much as I have enjoyed taking part. See you on the other side."

A number of current and former players have tweeted their reactions to Henry's retirement:

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey: "Congratulations on an outstanding career @ThierryHenry. Top player. Top guy. #Legend"

MOTD presenter Gary Lineker: "Congratulations to @ThierryHenry on a truly wonderful career. One of the great footballers of our time and a top bloke. Bonne chance."

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge: "Happy retirement to my hero and idol @ThierryHenry. Wish you all the best in the next chapter."

Arsenal striker Kelly Smith: "Congrats to @ThierryHenry on a fantastic career. Loved watching him play. What a player."
