EBOLA OUTBREAK: Nigerian Soldier Tests Positive

A Nigerian soldier has tested positive to the Ebola Virus Disease in Liberia, the United Nations has said.


The infected UN peacekeeper tested positive to the disease on Wednesday, December 3 and the diagnosis was announced by the organization the next day.

Plans for the unidentified soldier to be flown to the Netherlands for treatment are underway, Inge Freriksen, a spokesperson for the Dutch Health Ministry said on Friday, December 5.

The patient is expected to arrive in Amsterdam at the weekend and will be isolated in a "calamity unit" at the University Medical Center in Utrecht.

The Ebola outbreak has claimed over 6,000 lives this year but cases of the disease are said to be on the decline in Liberia, even though drastic increment in infection rate has been recorded in neighboring country, Sierra Leone
