The sordid incident that happened at the Kosodo area of Oranyan, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Sunday, 7 December, 2014, has sent shock waves around the area as many mothers have not come to terms with with the reason a grown man like Kazeem would resort to having carnal knowledge of the toddler.

According to the Nigerian Tribune, the girl was playing in the compound with her friend who is the suspect's niece, when he called on them to run an errand for him.
When the victim and her friend went to answer Yusuf's call, he gave his niece some money to buy sachet water for him, detaining the innocent victim. Immediately his niece was out of the room, Yusuf pounced on the girl and forcefully raped her.
Narrating her ordeal to the police, the young victim said:
"When we got to the man’s house, he gave my friend, who is his niece, money to go and buy sachet water for him. He lives on the first floor of an old storey building with wooden staircase.

Before my friend came back, the man carried me and put me on the bed. He did not remove my dress or my pants but just drew my pants aside. He started doing something to me. I was crying but no one came.
My friend came back and we left for home. My mother saw me crying and asked whether I was hungry but I told her to look at my private part as blood was coming out."
On sighting blood gushing out of her daughter’s private part, the girl’s mother called her husband's attention and the distraught father quickly went to Idi Aro police station to report the defilement, which prompted Yusuf’s arrest and detention.
The case was later transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Iyaganku for further investigation.
Yusuf, a tipper lorry driver, has been pleading for mercy, blaming the devil for his act. He disclosed that he lost his wife in 2013 but has a lover with whom he had sex with less than a week before his misdemeanor.

I have never done such a thing. I still had sex a week before the incident. I don’t smoke hemp, but I take spirit and smoke cigarette. That day, I took two sachets of gin and smoked cigarette before my act.

I am from a polygamous home and I am sure they are behind my predicament. My mother left my father when we were kids for another man. My mother gave birth to six children for my father, but we are just two that are left."
For his lust, Yusuf was arraigned in Magistrates’ Court 5, Iyaganku, Ibadan, and has remanded in Agodi Prison till January 13, 2015.
