EBOLA OUTBREAK: Death Toll Estimated At 5,689

The death toll from the current Ebola outbreak has risen above 5,000

The WHO also stated that 15,935 cases of the disease had been recorded while adding that the spread of the virus seems to have slowed down.

The global casualty figure for the current Ebola outbreak has now reached 5,689, the World Health Organization(WHO) said on Wednesday, November 26.

The WHO also stated that 15,935 cases of the disease had been recorded while also adding that the spread of the virus seems to have slowed down.

Cases of the disease are stable in Guinea, stable or declining in Liberia but apparently on the increase in Sierra Leone where according to the UN agency “transmission remains persistent and intense".

Sierra Leone is said to account for almost two-thirds of all the new cases and has lost seven doctors to the disease while an eighth has been confirmed to have the disease.

The nation’s capital, Freetown reported 118 new cases in the past week, making it the worst affected area so far.

Burial teams in Sierra Leone have also gone on strike and have dumped infected corpses in public to protest the non-payment of their hazard allowances.
